Only Canadian and Mexican commercial licenses are recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation as a total reciprocity for driver`s licenses in the state of Texas. Once you have completed your 6-hour training course through DerA GENEHMIG and completed the ITYD process, you can go to your local DPS office and take your Texas driver`s license test. You need to make an appointment in advance about what you can do on the Texas DPS website. Depending on the region, you may need to make your appointment several weeks to several months in advance. Don`t wait until the last minute. Please note that if new Texas drivers under the age of 18 must apply for a Learner licence, this is no longer a necessary step to obtain your driver`s license after your 18th birthday. New Texas residents can legally travel to Texas with a valid expired driver`s license from another U.S. state, U.S. territory, Canadian province or qualified country, up to 90 days after moving to Texas. Minors (under 18) Applicants under the age of 18 with a valid driver`s licence or valid apprenticeship licence from another state, U.S. territory or Canadian province are not required to take the knowledge test.

Applicants who issue a valid licence/authorization from another state receive the corresponding Texan version of the document (i.e., a Texas apprenticeship licence for the apprenticeship licence of another country). You will need a 70% score on your written DPS exam to pass. If you fail, you can take the test twice more in the same year. If you pass, you can take the driving test.
